A time change is on the horizon.
Daylight Savings Time will end on Oct. 31. It's also a good chance to test and change batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, says Central York Fire Services. The department reminds residents that working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms provide the early detection needed to help people escape their homes during a fire or CO leak.
Once a month, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms should be tested and at least once a year, old batteries should be replaced with new ones, according to a press release issued by CYFS.
Working smoke alarms must be installed on every level of the home and outside all sleeping areas. Carbon monoxide alarms should be installed near all sleeping areas of the home, to ensure the alarm is heard if activated, says CYFS.
