City council has given the go-ahead to a second massive distribution centre along Hwy. 27 in west Woodbridge.

Councillors, on Tuesday, voted to permit the development of a new Costco distribution centre just south of the new FedEx distribution centre, currently under construction on the east side of Hwy. 27, across from Martin Grove Road.

The Costco facility, which is directly across the street from Sanremo Court, is to be built out in two phases, according to a city staff report.

The first phase includes a 467,000-square-foot-warehouse as well as 17,000-square-foot office area and an 88,000 square-foot commissary area.

Phase one will also include 456 staff and visitor parking spaces and 723 truck parking spaces.

The second phase would see the warehouse expanded by nearly 300,000 square feet and the addition of 17 more truck parking spaces for a total of 740.

The plan calls for trucks to access the distribution centre via a new street connected to Langstaff Road while employees and visitors will have access off Hwy. 27.
