As part of its refreshed strategic plan, the City of Vaughan has re-organized its corporate structure to focus on the customer experience and the changes reflect input received from citizens and stakeholders, including members of the BILD York Chapter.

"City-building is a team effort and our success is the result of hard work, focus and discipline,” said Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua.

“We have built a solid foundation and this updated strategic plan will continue to guide us on the path to achieving our goals. I'm confident that this will be a positive change that will enable us to fulfill our vision of Vaughan as a city of choice."

On Council’s behalf, Bevilacqua thanked City Manager Steve Kanellakos and the leadership team for their commitment to improve the city’s administration.

"A lot of thought, collaboration and hard work have gone into developing a plan to enhance our approach to service excellence,” said Kanellakos.

“At the end of the day, it all comes down to improving our citizens' experience with City services in a financially responsible manner. We will focus on engaging our staff, improving our operational performance and renewing our commitment to service excellence."

At the City, Commissions have been replaced by Portfolios. Formerly the Commissioner of Planning, John MacKenzie has been appointed as Deputy City Manager, Planning and Growth Management. He will continue to have departments from the former Planning Commission report to him and the Portfolio has expanded to include additional departments. MacKenzie is now responsible for Development Planning, Development Engineering and Infrastructure Planning, Economic Development and Culture Services, Policy Planning and Environmental Sustainability, Building Standards and Parks Development.

“I greatly appreciate the valuable input that the York Chapter of BILD provided to our team as part of the Council-directed Public Service Renewal initiative,” MacKenzie said. “We have acted on a number of recommendations suggested by BILD and I look forward to a close working relationship with BILD in our pursuit of service excellence.”
