Are you tired of looking at the same old junk around your house but don’t know how to get rid of it?

You can go to an open house to learn about York Region’s waste reduction programs and find out what community resources are available to help you reduce, reuse and recycle.

Demonstrations will help you learn how to re-purpose household items to give them new life. For example, find out how to make plastic milk bag mats.

Also, drop off your old batteries, eyeglasses, electronics, used clothing, textiles and pharmaceuticals for recycling.

For a $5 fee to the United Way, you can shred personal and confidential documents.

The workshop will be held Oct. 20 in the Great Hall of the York Region headquarters at 17250 Yonge St. north of Eagle Street in Newmarket.
