On August 29th, Doctor McClean Park filled with members of the community, family and friends in support of Alesandro's Wish to Walk. Many strode in, becoming heavily aware of how lucky they were to be able to do so at an event like this. This fundraising event was truly inspiring, dedicated to 6-year-old Alesandro who suffers from cerebral palsy. This conditions inhibits Alesandro’s ability to walk. He must be assisted at all times with even simple tasks like going to the bathroom, taking a shower, or grabbing something to drink. Alesandro’s family hopes to raise a total of $150,000. $100,000 will cover a surgery that he has been approved for in St. Louis in the United States called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR). $50,000 will be for the post operation rehabilitation program that Alesandro will need in order to recover. Alessandro suffers from Level III Cerebral Palsy on the GMFCS (Gross Motor Function Classification System for Cerebral Palsy; Level I being the mildest and Level V being the worst). Through these fundraising efforts, he may just be able to his first steps away from this life altering condition.
