Christmas tree collection in Vaughan: what you need to know

If you don’t own a wood chipper and need to dispose of your Christmas tree, the city will be picking them up this week and next week on your regular waste collection day.

Place your Christmas tree at the curb night before 7 a.m. but first ensure you’ve removed all tinsel, ornaments, plastic bags and stands.

If you followed in Clark Griswold’s footsteps and bought a tree taller than 2.13 metres (seven feet), you’ll have to cut it in half before taking it to the curb otherwise it won’t fit in the garbage truck.

And remember, Christmas trees buried in snow banks may not be picked up.

If you forget to put your tree out for collection, you can always take it to York Region's compost facility, 1351 Bloomington Rd. in Richmond Hill, and dispose of it at no charge or wait until spring leaf and yard waste collection starts.
