Snapd Vaughan East/Woodbridge
January 2016

The 4th annual Festival of Light celebration took place on Dec. 10th at the Vaughan City Hall. The opening ceremony commenced at 6:00 p.m. and the event is open to the public. At this event, more than ten cultural groups reflective of the diversity in Canadian society came together to celebrate a common theme. By focusing on what they share in common, they believe that we all strengthen our community and demonstrate that in the end, we are one regardless of gender, colour, heritage, faith or ethnicity. In the past, this celebrations had featured the themes of “light”, “bread”, and “thread”. This year the theme was “Music of the heart”! This celebration included short presentations from each of the participant groups to showcase the various cultures that live and thrive in Canada. In addition, there was an opportunity to sample foods from around the world. Everyone was welcomed to join The Festival of Light in solidarity with the global community to remember the tragic events that have recently taken place around the world. By coming together, they sent a message of peace, community and tolerance - thus shedding light into darkness.
