The Menorah Lighting Ceremony

The Jewish community, with guests gathered together to join the Mayor of Vaughan, Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council on Dec. 9th at Vaughan City Hall for a Menorah Lightning Ceremony in celebration of Hanukkah. The festivity included traditional treats and drinks to compliment the crowd of people who were waiting for the lightning ceremony. One of the Rabbi’s gave a touching speech on how we should all shine our light brighter as the world gets darker. Along with his touching speech, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua talked about how he’s proud that the City of Vaughan has become such a diverse place with people accepting one another for who they are, in wake of cruel events that are happening in the world today. Overall, the speeches were concluded by the Members of Council, the Mayor & one of the Rabbis passing along the light with a candle and lighting the Menorah, welcoming in Hanukkah. This was a very special moment for everyone in attendance.
