EDITORIAL: Let's hit the pitch, Vaughan!

Vaughan residents won’t have far to go this summer to get their kicks on as the city this week welcomed its first professional soccer team, Toronto FC II, into the fold.
We raise our glass in a toast to Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, whose love of the game helped bring the USL Pro team here, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment and Toronto FC, for giving the city above Toronto a shot at playing host to what’s arguably our community’s favourite game, the Ontario Soccer Association and the Ontario Soccer Centre in Woodbridge, where all the action on the pitch is set to happen.
We predict the 2,000 or so seats - for now - and season tickets will quickly sell out. Bevilacqua, himself, handed over a personal cheque for four season seats at yesterday’s announcement.
There’s no question our community will embrace its new Toronto FC II, and will be a key driver in a fan experience that is sure to attract young and old.
