Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ontario Premier Doug Ford will announce details on Friday of a $3.1-billion infusion aimed at improving health care, according to a report.

The federal and Ontario leaders will meet in King City, north of Toronto, to announce the deal, the Toronto Star reported Thursday night.

In exchange for the new cash, the Ford government would commit spending to establish new primary care teams aimed at boosting access to family doctors, the outlet reported.

The province reportedly said it would add hundreds of new family physicians and nurse practitioners along with thousands of new nurses and personal support workers.

Enrollment in health-care education programs will increase by 700, with a specific allotment for Northern Ontario.

Some of the money will be aimed at increasing youth mental health services and substance abuse services in rural, remote and Indigenous communities, the report said, and new funding will modernize the collection of medical data.
