Owning a home has become an impossible dream for many Canadians, and finding a decent place to rent is getting harder every day.
An upcoming event with data experts from Statistics Canada will delve into the housing crisis with Feb. 1 Q&A-style “Ask Me Anything” event on Reddit about the housing market in Canada.
Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions about the various factors behind the current housing situation, including rapidly-changing market conditions, housing supply, availability and affordability.
For example, home ownership has been on the decline after hitting its peak in 2011, according to the agency. Meanwhile, the growth in those who rent was more than double that of owner households between 2011 and 2021. Renters were also more than twice as likely to live in unaffordable housing.
