Culvert replacement near Greenock Drive will require lane restrictions

York Region crews will be widening and improving Rutherford Road from Hwy. 400 to Westburne Drive in Vaughan.

JUST THE FACTS

What: The next phase of the region's Rutherford Road project is set to begin this month, and will include extensive road widening, reconstruction and streetscaping work to accommodate growth, ease congestion and create more transportation options.

Upcoming work includes:

• Road widening and reconstruction from Melville Avenue to Keele Street

• Completing the culvert replacement near Greenock Drive, which will require lane restrictions

• Continuing widening and reconstructing of the Canadian National Railway bridge

• Completing intersection improvements at Rutherford Road and Melville Avenue (south side)

• Installing traffic signals, new street lighting, traffic islands and medians and completing final paving and streetscaping

 

Work completed to date:

• Widened, reconstructed and completed the base layer of asphalt between Keele Street and Westburne Drive/Barhill Road, and from Jane Street to Melville Avenue/Creditstone Road

• Improved the intersections at Rutherford Road and Melville Avenue, and at Rutherford Road and Barhill Road (north sides of each intersection)

• Installed sidewalk and cycle tracks on the north side of the road between Jane Street and Melville Avenue, and from Keele Street to Westburne Drive

 

• Replaced one culvert and extended two others in the project area

Timeline: Most of the project -- major work such as road widening -- is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2024, with minor work such as streetscaping scheduled to begin in the spring of 2025.
