The study

The City of Vaughan is preparing an Urban Water Plan (previously referred to as the Integrated Urban Water Master Plan) to meet the City’s water infrastructure needs as communities continue to grow. An Environmental Assessment (EA) study is underway to assess existing and planned urban city water systems and establish a long-term strategy for water in Vaughan. Once complete, the Urban Water Plan will be the City’s long-term strategy for providing water, wastewater and stormwater management systems that are safe, reliable, resilient, environmentally sustainable and financially responsible for current and future generations.

The Urban Water Master Plan EA study is being conducted in accordance with the Master Planning process, as outlined in the Municipal Engineers Association Municipal Class Environmental Assessment guidelines (October 2000, amended 2007, 2011 and 2015). This approach involves the preparation of a Master Plan document at the conclusion of Phase 1 and 2 of the Class EA process.

Get involved

An in-person session is being held for residents to learn more about how the City is planning for increased water demands, and how Vaughan’s system of water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure (such as pipes, watermains and drains) will grow. During this session, residents will be able to provide input and speak to the project team directly. Here are the details:

Can’t attend in person? Material from the session will be available for review on vaughan.ca/UrbanWaterPlan by Tuesday, Feb. 6. Comments and feedback can be submitted through an online commenting form or via email at urbanwaterplan@vaughan.ca until Tuesday, Feb. 20.
