We’re in the depths of snow and freezing temperatures season, but that doesn’t mean you have to sit at home with the winter blues.
Here are a few upcoming Newmarket events you may want to take part in:
- The Newmarket Folk Society presents the Fitzgeralds at the Newmarket Legion at 707 Srigley St. on Jan. 27. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. and the performance starts at 8 p.m. The Fitzgeralds are a family group consisting of fiddling and step-dancing siblings, Tom, Kerry and Julie, who are nominated for the Canadian Folk Music Awards’ instrumental group of the year. Their show features exceptional musicianship, step dancing and audience interaction that resonates with people of all ages. Tickets are $30. For more information, visit newmarketfolk.com.
- Flag raising for Black History Month Feb. 1 from 11:30 a.m. to noon at the town municipal office at 395 Mulock Dr. The Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association and the Town of Newmarket are raising the Pan-African flag and coming together to honour the rich heritage, diverse culture and invaluable contributions of people of African descent to our community. - 2024 King Winterskål fundraiser for Stronach Regional Cancer Centre at Southlake Regional Health Centre Feb. 3 at Lions Park at 424 D'Arcy St. A day of skating and winter family fun. Open ice and family skate from 10 to 11:30 a.m., lunch and remarks from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., hockey tournament for registrants only, kids games and socializing from noon to 2 p.m. A recommended minimum donation of $50 per adult is greatly appreciated. - Mayor John Taylor’s New Year’s Levee (rescheduled due to a winter storm on the initial date) Feb. 2 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Riverwalk Commons at 200 Doug Duncan Dr. The event will include performances, food and drink (free while quantities last), skating, a photo booth and more.
