'CLOSED LANES': Significant closures in Vaughan and Markham as well as Richmond Hill Jan. 2-6 on Highway 400 and Highway 404 trigger traffic warnings to drivers

There are new closures in Vaughan, Richmond Hill and Markham this week impacting drivers on highways 400 and 404.

The Ministry of Transportation announced the closures on its 511 Ontario website.

They include:

Construction on Highway 400 near Major Mackenzie Drive means drivers can "expect delays" of up to 10 minutes until Friday, Jan. 5, according to the Ministry.
Construction on Highway 404 southbound between Major MacKenzie Drive and Highway 7 will trigger alternating lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Jan. 2-6;
Construction on Highway 404 northbound between Highway 7 and Major MacKenzie Drive, will trigger alternating lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Jan. 2-6;
Maintenance on Highway 404 southbound between John Street in Markham and , McNicoll Avenue in Toronto will leave two lanes closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Jan. 2-5;
Construction on Highway 404 northbound lanes between Highway 401 and Regional Road 7 (Highway 7) for 9.2 kilometres, with nightly lane closures on Highway 404 northbound, between north of Sheppard Avenue to south of Sheppard Avenue. "Closed Lanes one or two or three out of five," the Ministry said.
