Who are your accessibility champions? Vaughan wants to know

Nominations for the 2024 Vaughan Accessibility Champion Awards are now open until Feb. 16

The City of Vaughan wants your help to recognize accessibility champions.

An accessibility champion is someone who advocates for an accessible city, a group working to advance inclusivity practices, or a business that invents a product or service for people with disabilities.

If you know a person or a business that fits the bill, you can nominate them for a 2024 Vaughan Accessibility Champion Award.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, Feb. 16.

CHAMPIONS CAN BE NOMINATED IN 5 CATEGORIES:

• Individual or group.
• Small business (1 to 99 employees).
• Medium business (100 to 499 employees).
• Large business (more than 500 employees).
• Student (elementary, secondary and post-secondary institutions).

Those nominated must provide goods or services to people with disabilities in Vaughan or go above and beyond to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities.

This could include a business that implemented significant accessibility upgrades or an individual who advocated for greater access and inclusion for people living with a disability.

TO NOMINATE:

• Visit the city’s Accessibility Champion Award webpage.
• Click on the categories to review the award information packages.
• Have the nominee sign the consent and conflict of interest declaration form in the award package.
• Complete the nomination form and submit it with the signed declaration form and any supporting documents which highlight the nominee’s accomplishments.

Recipients will be selected by the Accessibility Advisory Committee during the Monday, March 25 advisory committee meeting and receive their awards at a ceremony being held in May.
