Residents are invited to celebrate Hanukkah with the Jewish community in Newmarket on Dec. 10.

The celebration will include the second annual Hanukkah Village activities on Main Street, followed by the annual lighting of the menorah at Riverwalk Commons at 200 Doug Duncan Dr.

The fun begins at 3 p.m.

It is free, but participants are asked to RSVP at chabadnewmarket.com/chanukah.

Hanukkah celebrates lightness and goodness overcoming darkness, a universal concept that people of all religions and cultures can relate to, Rabbi Mendy Grossbaum said.

“Our response to hatred of any kind must never be to cower or hide our faith,” he said.

“The story of Hanukkah is the tremendous power of light to overcome darkness. We can have no better response to negativity we encounter than to gather together in even greater numbers and celebrate the light of the menorah in public. Unity is what makes a strong community.”
