East Gwillimbury Council has approved a new holiday parking exemption period.
From Dec. 24 until Jan. 1, bylaw enforcement will not ticket vehicles parked for more than three consecutive hours or between 2 to 6 a.m. This will allow residents to host gatherings without having to apply for the parking consideration form.
The exemption will not be in effect when there is a forecasted storm or winter event that requires winter maintenance operations. All vehicles that are parked on the road will need to be removed to allow road crews to clear the roads. If the exemption is lifted, updates will be shared on the Town’s Facebook page and website at www.eastgwillimbury.ca/parking.
“I think this program just makes sense for our residents,” Acting Mayor Brian Johns said. “We know that parking can be difficult during the holiday season and this new annual parking program will let friends and families get together without worrying about potentially receiving parking tickets.”
Anyone who is having a gathering outside of these holiday dates can still apply for the parking consideration form at www.eastgwillimbury.ca/parking, which allows residents and visitors to park on the road for more than three hours or between the hours of 2 and 6 a.m. for up to 15 days per plate per year.
