Georgina streamlines grant application process for non-profit organizations

A streamlined application process has launched for non-profit organizations looking for funding from the town.

Georgina’s non-profit organizations grant is a project-based funding stream for organizations that contribute to the social, economic, cultural, health or general well-being of the town.

Applications can be made for a minimum $5,000 grant to a maximum $100,000 grant per year.

Applicants must be incorporated as a non-profit/charitable organization, have offices in Georgina and primarily serve residents and businesses located in Georgina.

The town has funded projects for non-profit and community organizations for a number of years, and as the number of organizations looking for funding has increased, there was a need to streamline the application process, according to the town.

Following the pandemic, the town undertook a review of its grant process, including a “review of historical funding arrangements with any community organizations to ensure that the activities being funded are still relevant and are not being duplicated by other agencies or the town.”

In an effort to reduce the reliance on funding from the town, the “value and merit” of all the organizations looking for funding will be considered. The town will decide which organizations to fund and how much funding they will receive.

The funding comes from local taxpayers and therefore the town has an “absolute responsibility” to make sure the investment benefits the community.

Applications will be accepted during two intake periods. The first intake due date is Nov. 20 and the second intake due date is March 1, 2024.
