A draft 2024 budget has Georgina council mulling over a tax levy increase of 5.5 per cent.
The total tax levy increase includes a 3.5 per cent increase for operating expenses and a 2 per cent increase for the infrastructure budget.
Staff developed the draft budget with the goal of investing in Georgina’s future while also getting the best value for citizens and business owners.
The draft budget “addresses increasing costs while improving current service levels and allowing for sustainable future planning,” according to a town statement.
The budget sets aside $4.5 million for road repairs and reconstruction; $1.6 million for facility improvements; $1.4 million for Ainslie Hill Park and trail development; $1.2 million for water service connections and $800,000 for parks repair and remediation.
Survey results from over 350 residents were considered during the development of the draft budget. Residents can still provide feedback by reviewing the draft document and submitting feedback to their council member or by email to budget@georgina.ca.
Council will deliberate the draft budget on Dec. 5 and Dec. 6.
