The Region of York has a new chief administrative officer.

Erin Mahoney was appointed by council on Sept. 28 to replace outgoing chief administrative officer Bruce Macgregor, who announced his intention to step down following more than 16 years in the role.

Macgregor’s last day with York Region is Friday, Sept. 29.

Mahoney has been with the region for 15 years and her role as commissioner, public works positions her well to lead York Region into a new era of growth and innovation, York Region chair and CEO Wayne Emmerson said in a statement.

“I am confident she will help us continue to achieve our strategic goals and deliver on the exceptional programs and services our residents and communities deserve and expect.”

Ms. Mahoney holds a bachelor of science (honours) degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland and a master’s degree in engineering from the University of Western Ontario. She has previously held key leadership positions in various private sector organizations and is active on several boards and volunteer agencies.

As chief administrative officer, Mahoney will play a critical role in shaping the future direction of the region and its communities.

Her ability to “collaborate, lead with empathy and confidently make pivotal decisions” aligns with the region’s mission to build strong, caring, safe communities, Emmerson said.

The chief administrative officer is responsible for the day-to-day operations of York Region’s 15 core services and more than 5,000 full-time and part-time employees.

Ms. Mahoney will be the sixth chief administrative officer in the region’s 52-year history.

“I am excited to lead our York Region staff dedicated to delivering on our commitments to the people and communities we serve,” Mahoney said. “As a leader in municipal service delivery and a top employer, I look forward to continuing the path of excellence.”
