Stouffville is deferring the adoption of the town’s new official plan after recent comments from Markham-Stouffville MPP and Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Paul Calandra earlier this week. Calandra will soon be introducing legislation to reverse official plan decisions and wind back provincial changes to a number of new official plans, including the Region of York official plan.
In a memorandum from director of development services Dwayne Tapp addressed to Stouffville council it said, “In light of the uncertainty regarding the future status of the York Region official plan, specifically urban boundaries, staff have made the decision to defer the adoption of the town’s new official plan until there is further clarity provided regarding the impacts of the province’s review and reversal of the region’s official plan.”
A special council meeting had been originally scheduled for Nov. 1 to adopt the town’s new official plan.
