More than 280 participants in the Ride for Mackenzie Health, presented by CIBC, pedalled past the event goal, raising $388,641 in necessary funds for Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital and Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital.

Cyclists began the ride at Westlin Farms in Vaughan on Sept. 24 and chose a 40, 70 or 100 km route through York Region. The ninth annual ride included support from more than 30 fundraising teams.

Dr. Paul Perlon, physician in the emergency department at Mackenzie Health, was there with his team, the Spin Doctors, made up of colleagues and community members of various backgrounds.

“Every team member understands that it’s so important to give back to our community hospitals,” he said. “Participating in the Ride for Mackenzie Health lets us do that in a fun way.”

The Spin Doctors raised more than $6,500 this year, he said, which will go toward some of the hospitals’ highest-priority needs.

“As a physician in the emergency department, I see the direct impact donations from the community can make in supporting patient care, from the life-saving equipment and technology we use to the additional programs and services we can offer to our patients.”

Nicole McCahon, who began her appointment as Mackenzie Health Foundation’s new president and CEO in June, expressed gratitude to the community for their ongoing support.

“At Mackenzie Health, we’re revolutionizing community-based care to ensure that everyone in the communities we serve across western York Region has access to the best possible care, close to home,” she said. “Funds raised from events like the Ride for Mackenzie Health and our dedicated community of donors are vital to ensuring we’re able to expand specialized programs and clinics, address critical needs like renovating patient spaces, purchase life-saving equipment and technology, enhance training opportunities for our top team of exceptional health care professionals and so much more.

“Together, we’re reshaping healthcare delivery, making high-quality care easily accessible to all.”
