Vaughan expects to be barrier-free by 2025

The City of Vaughan is now the first municipality to join the Accelerating Accessibility Coalition (AAC).

Launched in November 2022, the AAC is a coalition of real estate and accessibility leaders with a mandate to challenge home builders to make more physical accessible homes. AAC is built on the principle of making accessible and barrier-free homes benefit everyone.

Vaughan is partnering with the AAC as it builds on its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Plan, the Multi-Year Accessibility Plan and the Age-Friendly Community Action Plan.

“Accessibility is an essential feature of such inclusive societies, which requires built form to meet residents’ needs for their day-to-day lives across all stages of life,” said Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca in a news release.

The City of Vaughan expects to be barrier-free by 2025.

“We can and must do better to ensure that people with disabilities are treated equitably and with the dignity and respect they deserve. We are honoured to join the Accelerating Accessibility Coalition and encourage other municipalities to do so to create a more accessible future for all of us,” added Del Duca.
