City of Vaughan hosts Sisters in Spirit outside City Hall

The City of Vaughan has proclaimed Oct. 4 as "Sisters in Spirit Day." A day of reflection to honour the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and 2-Spirit people in Canada.

The City of Vaughan held a vigil in the courtyard outside City Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and was hosted by Edebwed Ogichidaa Kwe (also known as Valarie King) from the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.

The focus of the event was to provide a space for missing and murdered Indigenous peoples, support grieving families and offer opportunities for healing and raising awareness.

"Sisters in Spirit" is part of the City’s annual Culture Days -- a free, national event bringing the community together to honour diversity, artistic, and cultural endeavours and the spirit of togetherness.
