Where exactly dollars are spent at the York Catholic District School Board will be under the microscope in the coming months.

The Ministry of Education is set to initiate an audit of the board’s finances after it received a letter at the end of May from chair Frank Alexander, a ministry spokesperson confirmed.

Board spokesperson Mark Brosens said YCDSB will fully co-operate with the Ministry of Education's audit.

The letter requesting an audit of YCDSB’s finances was the result of a discussion at the May 29 board meeting where Alexander brought up concerns about a “call to action” trip to Saskatchewan that 22 students and three chaperones, including trustees Elizabeth Crowe and Jennifer Wigston, were going on.

Trustees passed a motion brought forward by Alexander to send a letter to Education Minister Stephen Lecce requesting a team conduct an audit of the board’s finances.

Alexander did not respond to a request for comment by the time of publication.
