If you’re looking to add another member to your family, the Georgina Animal Shelter and Adoption Centre is the place to go.

The 2023 adoption open house on Sept. 23 is an opportunity for the cats and dogs at the animal shelter to find their forever families.

During the event, potential adopters will be able to meet the animals, play games and learn more about the adoption program.

Profiles of cats and dogs who are available for adoption can be found by going to Adopt A Pet or Pet Finder.

Completed cat adoption or dog adoption forms can be submitted by email to animal-contol@georgina.ca.

Once an application is approved, the applicant will be contacted by phone to learn about how to proceed in the adoption process. Potential adopters and everyone who lives in their home will need to meet the pet in person to ensure compatibility.

Families that are looking to adopt a dog will also need to schedule a meet-and-greet with the shelter's current dogs.

Adoption fees include spaying or neutering, vaccination, deworming and one-month flea treatment. The cost to adopt a cat or kitten is $150 plus HST, and the cost to adopt a dog or puppy is $250 plus HST.

The town of Georgina is encouraging potential adopters to ensure they know the commitment involved in adopting a pet by asking themselves if they are able to accommodate unforeseen medical expenses for the pet, and whether they are prepared to keep and care for the pet for the pet’s lifetime.

The Georgina Animal Shelter and Adoption Centre helps stray cats and dogs from Georgina, Newmarket, East Gwillimbury and Aurora.

The adoption open house takes place on Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 26815 Civic Centre Rd., Keswick.
