The Regional Municipality of York marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of Paramedic Response Station #27 in the City of Markham.
York Region chair and CEO Wayne Emmerson expressed his confidence in the exceptional care provided by York Region's paramedics and the pivotal role this new station will play in sustaining the delivery of vital life-saving services.
“With more than 1.2 million residents calling York Region home, it is important we plan and prepare for the essential care and services required to support our region’s growing communities,” Emmerson said.
Situated at 180 Cachet Woods Crt. in Markham, this new station boasts LEED silver certification and the capacity to house up to six ambulances. It will be staffed by dedicated paramedics around the clock, seven days a week.
Strategically positioned in areas witnessing population growth, new stations including this one, ensure that York Region Paramedic Services remain responsive to the evolving demands of residents.
York Region is expected to add more than 600,000 new residents by 2041, and given the rapidly expanding and aging population, the demand for paramedic services is expected to surge, mirroring the growth seen in various other sectors and infrastructure projects, said City of Vaughan Regional Coun. Gino Rosati, chair of community and health services.
Rosati further underlined that this growth aligns with the York Region Paramedic Services Master Plan (2021-2031), which aims to judiciously allocate resources and maintain universal access to paramedic services across all nine municipalities within York Region.
Presently, York Region is home to 27 paramedic response stations, with plans to construct four additional stations over the next three years. Additionally, upgrades are scheduled for two existing stations to augment service capacity.
