Police are seeking witnesses following a shocking stabbing in Vaughan.
Two 13-year-old girls, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, were charged with assault with a weapon and police continue to seek witnesses to the crime after a 13-year-od girl was stabbed numerous times in a Vaughan plaza parking lot.
On Sept. 16 in the lead up to 8 p.m., police received a call about a large gathering of youths causing a disturbance at a local fast-food restaurant near Rutherford Road East and Hwy. 400.
A few minutes later, a fight began and when police arrived, they found a girl suffering from multiple injuries. Officers arrested two 13-year-old girls. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The accused girls hail from Vaughan and Richmond Hill.
The youth from Richmond Hill was held for a bail hearing. The youth from Vaughan was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at Newmarket Courthouse on Oct. 19.
"Any witnesses who have not yet spoken with investigators, or any person with a video recording from the area around the time of the incident, such as from a vehicle dashcam, a cellphone or a security system, is asked to contact police as soon as possible," York Regional Police Sgt. Clint Whitney wrote in a news release.
