Registration has opened for York Region District School Board’s 2023-2024 elementary and secondary Indigenous languages and international languages program.

Students in senior kindergarten to Grade 8 will learn to read, write and speak a new language or maintain their heritage language. No experience is necessary in a language to enrol in the extracurricular classes.

Students should register by Sept. 11 to attend the full program. Registration will reopen after Sept. 25 to fill remaining spots.

The YRDSB is offering more than 20 different language courses outside of regular school hours. A full list of available language courses, including Ojibwe, Farsi and Greek, to elementary students, locations, class days and times and registration information is available on the YRDSB website at shorturl.at/tAXZ7.

The secondary school courses will allow students to earn credits toward their Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

The secondary credit courses run for the full program year from September to June and are delivered in an online format through synchronous learning, supported by asynchronous activities.

A list of the secondary credit language programs available, course days and times and registration information is available on the YRDSD website at shorturl.at/ekmzR. Registrations will not be accepted after the third class.

Students are encouraged to register early as course offerings are not guaranteed and are subject to sufficient enrolment.

Students in the YRDSB and students outside of York Region are eligible to register.
