Mark your calendar for these fun and free activities in Richmond Hill to connect with your community this September.
Sept. 1 to 3 -- Uptown Asian Festival
The Uptown Asian Festival celebrates Asian culture with festivities such as lion and dragon dances, lantern shows, cultural films, Chinese acrobatics, an array of Asian food stalls, carnival rides and more. The three-day festival will take place at Richmond Green Sports Centre and Park, 1300 Elgin Mills Rd. E., Richmond Hill, from Sept. 1 from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sept. 2-3 from noon to 10 p.m.
Sept. 3, 10, 17, 24 -- Hillcrest Farmer’s Market, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Shop local and support farmers market vendors every Sunday until Oct. 15 at the Carrville Road entrance at Hillcrest Mall, 9350 Yonge St., Richmond Hill. Pick up superior meats, fresh produce, honey and other unique items. hillcrestmall.ca/hillcrest-farmers-market.
Sept. 10 -- Richmond Hill Heritage Summit
Celebrate your city and the organizations that have contributed to its unique traditions and culture at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts, 10268 Yonge St., Richmond Hill. From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., mix and mingle with more than 20 organizations and find out how you can get involved. From 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., enjoy award celebrations and a special presentation from guest speaker Ted Barris. Register to attend at RichmondHill.ca/RH150.
Sept. 11 -- Moonlight Movies, from 7 p.m. (pre-show) -- “Back to the Future”
Bring your blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy this classic PG-rated film featuring Canadian American actor Michael J. Fox, who plays Marty McFly, a 17-year-old high school student who is accidentally sent 30 years into the past. The film will be playing at Richvale Community Centre, 160 Avenue Rd., Richmond Hill.
Sept. 18 -- Moonlight Movies, from 7 p.m. (pre-show) -- “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish”
When Puss in Boots discovers his passion for adventure has taken its toll and burned through eight of his nine lives, he launches an epic journey to restore them by finding the mythical last wish. Enjoy this PG-rated film at Silver Stream Park, 110 Shirley Dr., Richmond Hill.
Sept. 23 -- Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services open house
The community is invited to come out for a day of fire safety activities, live demos, info booths, food trucks and games. Activities take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Station 8-1, 191 Major Mackenzie Dr. W., Richmond Hill.
Sept. 30 -- National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with guest speakers, drumming, sacred fire and medicine in this event led by Indigenous non-profit Odeiwin at the Richmond Hill Public Library (Central branch), 1 Atkinson St., Richmond Hill, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Register to attend at linktr.ee/odeiwinconnect.
