Another long summer weekend? What could be better?

The first Monday in August is a civic holiday in Canada and is known by different names.

In Ontario, the civic holiday is known by a variety of names: Simcoe Day in Toronto, George Hamilton Day in Hamilton, John Galt day in Guelph. In British Columbia it’s called British Columbia Day, in Manitoba it's Terry Fox Day and in New Brunswick it's New Brunswick Day.

Here’s a list of what is open and closed in York Region on the civic holiday:

OPEN

Retail

• Most malls in York Region are open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the civic holiday (Monday Aug. 7). The Pacific Mall is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. 365 days a year.

LCBO
Most LCBO stores will be open on Aug. 7. Please view the store locator on LCBO.com for more information on specific store hours.
Where permitted by local municipalities, LCBO Convenience Outlets may be open with regular hours of business.
The Beer Store
On Monday, Aug. 7, 132 select Beer Store retail locations across the province will be open for business from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The list of select York Region stores is below. Other stores will be closed.

• Most banks are closed Monday, Aug. 7 for the civic holiday.

Canada Post

• The civic holiday is a holiday for Canada Post, so mail will not be delivered.

Libraries
