Newmarket residents have a chance to find all kinds of treasures at the next curbside giveaway day Aug. 26.

The giveaway days that run monthly throughout the warmer months offer York Region residents an opportunity to place unwanted items at the curb for other residents and community members to browse and take for their own use.

“This is a great opportunity to declutter and find a new home for your unwanted items, while also picking up something you may want or need for free,” the region said

The annual tradition runs for several days between April and October. In Newmarket, residents get asked to put out unwanted items labelled as free outside their homes by 7 a.m. that morning. Unclaimed items must be removed by 5 p.m., with items left beyond that at risk of being a bylaw infraction.

The Town of Newmarket said it is a chance to ”give unwanted items a new life while keeping them out of landfill.”

The town advises using discretion when choosing what to put out and that items should be in good condition for reuse or able to be repaired. Keep sidewalks and hydrants clear. You should only take items marked as free.

Newmarket residents can put out a wide range of items, including books, furniture, sports equipment, construction material, electronics, artwork and more.

Curbside giveaways days will continue until October, running in Newmarket Aug. 26, Sept. 23 and Oct. 21.
