The Ontario government is investing $704,170 to support critical care upgrades and repairs at Mackenzie Health as part of Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care.

The investment, announced at the Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital on Aug. 11 is provided as part of the government’s Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF).

“I welcome the Ministry of Health's funding announcement for critical care upgrades and repairs in Richmond Hill,” said Daisy Wai, MPP for Richmond Hill. “This investment and upgrades will enhance patient experiences and help connect our residents to the care they need closer to home.”

The funds will specifically be used to repair the roof of three of the Richmond Hill hospital’s wings (A, B and C) and will also go toward the cost of a new emergency generator.

“As you know, we're focused on patient care --- we always want to have the best equipment and sometimes the infrastructure doesn't get the support it needs,” said Altaf Stationwala, president and CEO of Mackenzie Health. “So this funding is very much targeted to those things that don't always get on the top of capital list.

“With the support of government, we're able to replace roofs, emergency generators to ensure that as much as we have the state-of-the-art equipment and technology, we have the infrastructure that's there to actually back it up and support it.”

Stationwala thanked donors and the government for ongoing support of Mackenzie Health’s Hospitals, the Richmond Hill location, which opened in 1963, and the Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, which opened in 2021.

“Our objective is to keep both hospitals at the same level,” he said, noting the Richmond Hill location had ongoing needs related to growth and aging. “These improvements are vital to maintaining a safe and efficient environment for our patients and staff and will complement our larger effort to refresh Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital so that we can continue to meet the growing needs of our community and improve the experience for everyone who comes through our doors.

“Thank you to the provincial government for their continued support and commitment to the residents of western York Region.”
