City of Vaughan moves forward with neighbourhood traffic calming plan

As the City of Vaughan continues to grow, city council continues to look into traffic calming measures.

The neighbourhoods of New Kleinburg, Sonoma Heights, Vellore Village, Carville Corners and Lakeview Estates are part of a pilot project installing temporary traffic calming measures. Access to residences will remain available while work is being completed.

The measures are part of the Neighbourhood Traffic Calming Plan and installations are being referred to as “quick-build” designs. These designs are easily deployed and are cost-effective in testing before taking on more expensive and more permanent installations.

Some examples of quick builds include:

• Road signs (e.g. roundabout, driveway or intersection ahead)
• Radar message boards
• Flexi posts
• Pavement markings (e.g. 40 kilometres per hour)
• Planters and/or bollards (sturdy posts or poles typically made of metal or concrete that are placed in strategic locations to control and direct traffic)
• Rubber speed cushions and curbs
• Tiger tails at stop signs (alternating stripes below a stop sign to capture diver attention)
