The City of Vaughan is joining the plastic free July movement.
The campaign is a global initiative meant to encourage everyone to reduce or eliminate single-use plastic from everyday life.
Canadians throw away three million tonnes of plastic every year, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.
The City of Vaughan is asking residents to participate in the challenge and has a list of suggested items to not buy during the challenge. They include:
Those wishing to participate can sign up on the Plastic Free July website. Participants will then receive tips and tricks to their inbox to help throughout the month. Some suggestions include:
