Top York Catholic board scholars achieve 100% and 99% averages

19 students in total are being recognized, including two Markham students who averaged 100 per cent, as well as six students from Aurora, Markham, Woodbridge, Thornhill and Richmond Hill who averaged 99 per cent

With report cards in and schools out, York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) has announced its top scholars for 2023.

YCDSB is recognizing 19 graduating students who earned the highest average in their schools. Two Grade 12 students averaged 100 per cent and six more averaged 99 per cent.

Rohan Kumar and Jashvir Rathore, both from Father Michael McGivney Catholic High School in Markham, graduated with perfect averages. Kumar is entering a five-year medicine program at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland and Rathore will be studying computer science at University of Toronto.

The six students to achieve 99 per cent averages were Meagan Liang of Cardinal Carter Catholic High School in Aurora, Chloe Wong of St. Brother Andre Catholic High School in Markham, Rita Gergis and Paul Stoica of Father Bressani Catholic High School in Woodbridge, Cathy Sheng from St. Robert Catholic High School in Thornhill, and Kiara Elgohary of Our Lady Queen of the World Catholic Academy in Richmond Hill.

“I want to congratulate the YCDSB’s top scholars who have worked so hard to achieve this incredible accomplishment,” said Domenic Scuglia, director of education, in a news release. “I also want to thank the staff, families and everyone else who supported these young adults so they could excel in their academic work. I know all these exceptional students are driven to make this world a better place and we are excited to see what they will do next.”

The other 11 students honoured as top scholars with averages of 90 or above were Anthony Hoalga, Serina Wing Yan Chan, Di (Victoria) Le, Isabella Sciabbarrasi, Vincent Tullo, Maya Anastasia Umicevic, Josephina Kim, James Ramani, Valeriya Bohovych, Claudia Bruno, and Nadia Addeo.
