“What does community mean to you?”
York Region District School Board high school students reflected on this question and expressed their thoughts through art in collaboration with Indigenous artist Keith Gattie and the Richmond Hill Public Library (RHPL).
The result? An art installation that will be a permanent fixture at RHPL’s Richmond Green Library, unveiled June 17.
“‘Kwiinwining -- In the Community’” embodies the library's commitment to fostering a sense of belonging and celebrating Indigenous heritage during National Indigenous History Month,” said library CEO Darren Solomon. “In our spaces, on our shelves and through our programs, we reflect the diversity and stories of our community through ideas and creative expression.
“This amazing collaborative art piece is about bringing people together, learning, and creating a meaningful platform for important voices.” Visit www.rhpl.ca/indigenous to learn more.
