Markham has third most competitive job market in Canada

New study finds Toronto and Vancouver have the fiercest job markets

In the quest for the ideal job, the competition has always been fierce.

And it turns out that Markham has one of the most competitive job markets in Canada -- placing third in the rankings, with 41.1 applicants per job listing.

That’s according to a new study from career experts at Resume.io, which calculated how many people, on average, apply for jobs within one week of a LinkedIn job listing being posted.

The study finds that in Canada, job competition is the fiercest in Toronto, with 65.5 applicants per job listing, followed by Vancouver, with 47.1 applicants per job listing.

Two other GTA cities are among the top five tight job markets as well, where Brampton takes the fourth place (40.8 applicants) and Mississauga the fifth (36.6 applicants).

The study shows that Illinois has the most competitive job market of any U.S. state (60.6 applicants per job posting within one week), while San Jose, Calif., outranks all U.S. cities (107.6 applicants).

Key findings also indicate that Doha, Qatar has the most competitive job market in the world -- within one week, 399 people, on average, apply for a LinkedIn job post.
