The Canadian government is paving the path to accessibility and beauty at David Dunlap Observatory (DDO) park in Richmond Hill.

Majid Jowhari, MP for Richmond Hill, announced an investment of $209,560 toward the DDO Interim Trail Project, as part of the Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF) in May. The announcement was made on behalf of Filomena Tassi, the minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.

“It is critical that we as a government invest in the necessary infrastructure to support the mental and physical health of all in our communities,” said Tassi in a statement. “This investment promotes social interaction, boosts local economies and creates jobs.”

The Interim Trails will offer residents and visitors to Richmond Hill with additional open space within the city to enjoy recreational activities. DDO’s current 2.25 km trail provides designated paths to explore the park’s cultural significance and natural beauty and encourages stewardship.

“The David Dunlap Observatory is more than just a historical site -- it's a community treasure,” said Jowhari. “This significant project, powered by the CCRF, means free, convenient and equitable access to a site of national historical importance, allowing Richmond Hill residents to embrace science, heritage, culture and wellness.

“This is a major step toward boosting Richmond Hill’s local economy, enhancing inclusion and creating endless growth opportunities for our community while paving the path towards prosperity.”
