The City of Toronto officially introduced Love Park to residents on the Harbourfront, a two-acre “urban oasis” for everyone to enjoy.

The new park, rapidly flush with eager and curious Torontonians that included two wedding ceremonies on Friday, is one of many waterfront projects, affirming the city’s commitment to ensuring “liveable, sustainable and connected communities along Toronto’s central waterfront.”

Located at the corner of York Street and Queens Quay West (the site of the old York-Bay-Yonge off-ramp from the Gardiner Expressway), one of Love Park’s main features is the heart-shaped pond at the centre, including newly planted trees that the city says helps create a tranquil area amongst the bustling streets.

There are a total of nine bronze-cast Canadian animals and moveable cafe-style tables and chairs sponsored by the Waterfront BIA, along with a trellis, a drinking fountain and an off-leash area for dogs.

The Government of Canada funded Love Park’s development, with the design carried out by CCxA (Sugar Beach, HTO Park, Berczy Park) in collaboration with gh3*.

“Love Park embodies the city’s ongoing efforts and leadership to embrace innovative and exciting community spaces through collaboration with the Government of Canada and multiple waterfront partners,” Deputy Mayor Jennifer McKelvie said.

“Our combined dedication has helped create North America’s largest urban redevelopment program and one of the most extensive waterfront revitalization efforts in the world.”

City councillor Ausma Malik (Sapdina-Fort York) called Love Park a “bold and creative public space” enthusiastically shaped and welcomed by neighbours.

“I’m excited for Love Park to become a favourite for the local community, a joy for visitors, and a wonderful part of a growing, green and beautiful waterfront.”
