The Town of East Gwillimbury has a new boss.
Council appointed Mark Valcic as the new chief administrative officer (CAO) for the Town of East Gwillimbury, effective June 19, 2023. Valcic has worked for the town since 2009 and previously was the deputy CAO, general manager of corporate services, and treasurer. Prior to his time with the town, Mark worked with several public sector organizations including Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority and the Simcoe County District School Board.
“Mr. Valcic has a passion for modernization and innovation,” Mayor Virginia Hackson said. “He has been a crucial part of the town’s senior management team for more than a decade, and has helped the town to maintain our strong financial position and prepare us for growth. Over the last several years, Mr. Valcic has led many changes to improve town operations and modernize our processes to better assist residents. I am confident Mr. Valcic will work with council to advance our strategic plan, ensure value for tax dollars, and provide quality services that our community wants and needs.”
The CAO reports to town council and is a leader who administers the business affairs of the corporation in accordance with provincial legislation, corporate policies and the strategic plan. The CAO also ensures that council-approved municipal services are delivered efficiently and effectively, and establishes and executes administrative policies and procedures, while driving for continuous improvement.
With Valcic taking on the role of CAO, recruitment for the general manager of corporate services will take place shortly.
