Georgina is replacing old iron water mains in sections of Jackson’s Point.
Water mains in the Cockburn neighbourhood were installed in the late 1960s and have reached the end of their life cycle. The old iron water mains are heavily corroded, causing discoloured water and sediment in the drinking water.
JUST THE FACTS
Location: water mains to be replaced on Grew and Sunnidale boulevards, Meadowlea and Faircrest avenues and O’Connor Drive
Work to be done: Old iron water mains are to be replaced with new PVC pipes and new fire hydrants installed in the area
Timeline: Construction is scheduled to be complete in November. Construction work takes place Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with occasional work after hours and on weekends
Impact to area residents: Water supply to the property may be shut off for a two-hour period during construction. Residents will be given two weeks’ notice as well as a reminder 48 hours prior to turning off the water
Road restrictions will be in place. Residents will be notified of any temporary restrictions to driveway access
