The City of Vaughan is looking into introducing a program where it will fully or partially fund key fob protective bags as a measure to combat vehicle theft.

For a limited time the City of Vaughan would provide Faraday bags/pouches to residents in a pilot program costing a maximum of $30,000 from its existing operating budget.

That would be a cost of $5.00 to $8.00 per item at approximately 3,700 to 5,700 units for a fully subsidized program.

Alternatively, the city is looking into partially funding at 7,400 to 11,400 units.

City staff is recommending that the units be fully funded citing that fully funding the program would remove a degree of “complexity” and require less co-ordination of staff time. However, a partially funded program would allow for broader distribution.
