City council and mayor Steven Del Duca welcomed a 17-person delegation from Sora, Italy on Friday, June 2, to celebrate and modernize the Sora-Vaughan twinning agreement (otherwise known as a friendship agreement) established in 1992.
The delegation is led by Sora Mayor Luca Di Stefano and includes councillors, city staff and entrepreneurs.
The Sora-Vaughan partnership is based on a strong connection through Vaughan’s Italian community and the welcoming was attended by Italian cultural associations and community groups; then afterward Del Duca and Di Stefano signed a renewed Expression of Friendship to advance the Vaughan-Sora relationship.
“Today’s gathering not only recognizes more than three decades of formal friendship between Vaughan and Sora, but also demonstrates a meaningful step forward in modernizing our cities’ relationship,” said Del Duca in a press release.
The town of Sora is in the Lazio region with a population of more than 25,000.
“Since 1992, and with the help of strong and active local community cultural associations, our cities have maintained a beautiful friendship. I am pleased to reaffirm our relationship with the City of Vaughan,” said Di Stefano.
