The East Gwillimbury Public Library Board has announced that Christine Glenn and Kayla Crone have been elected board chair and vice chair.

Outgoing chair Diana Robichaud will continue to serve as a board member. Robichaud first joined the library board in 2011 and served as chair through the past six years. Her term as board chair saw several notable achievements: implementing the library’s first library locker at the East Gwillimbury Sports Complex; promoting access to critical services during closures related to the COVID-19 pandemic; starting pop-up book sales at the East Gwillimbury Farmers' Market; and breaking ground at the Health and Active Living Plaza.

Robichaud is a community leader and a strong advocate for building a healthy and active community through library services, with an emphasis on equity, access to tools and resources and connections.

The board also recognized Lena Singh, outgoing vice-chair, who has served on the board since 2015. Singh brought a perspective to the library board that combines her experience as a human resource professional with a background in diversity and inclusion. Her passion for community involvement has led her to sit on multiple advisory committees, including the Town of East Gwillimbury’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee and the York Region District School Board’s Equity and Inclusivity Advisory Committee. Singh will continue to serve as an EGPL Board member.

New chair Christine Glenn has been a board member of the Friends of the East Gwillimbury Library for seven years and sat on several other East Gwillimbury boards. She brings with her 20 years of banking experience and 13 years running her family’s small business. She is looking forward to working hard to support our libraries.

The library is also welcoming new vice-chair Kayla Crone. She has been on the EGPL Board since 2019 and looks forward to supporting both new and returning board members, while continuing to support the library and making it the best it can be for the growing community.

The new library board consists of 11 members of the public and two councillors. More information about the East Gwillimbury Public Library Board is available at www.egpl.ca
