City of Vaughan doubled infrastructure spending in 2022

The City of Vaughan has released an overview of 2022 infrastructure projects worth more than $166 million -- double the value of work completed in 2021.

The Infrastructure Development 2022 Delivery Report details city-building milestones, transportation initiatives, active transportation improvements and infrastructure projects were launched and/or completed.

“2022 was a year distinguished by achievements and milestones -- $166 million worth of infrastructure improvements was completed, which more than doubles the value of work accomplished in 2021,” said Vince Musacchio, deputy city manager, infrastructure development.

“The  2022 Delivery Report showcases the numerous capital programs and projects that advanced throughout the year to effectively manage and maintain roads, facilities, parks and more.

“Building on the successes of 2022, the Infrastructure Development portfolio is geared up to deliver even more in 2023.”

Highlights include:

• The city spent $73.32 million for state of good repair projects and $92.34 million in growth-related projects.
• $38.8 million across 104 projects went to the road and bridge network. Projects include the Bass Pro Mills Drive extension environmental assessment, the Canada Drive-America Avenue bridge, the Kirby Road extension and widening projects, the Woodbridge Avenue improvements and streetscape project.
• $44.49 million across 49 projects was spent on the water, wastewater and stormwater network. Projects include the Black Creek Renewal environmental assessment, the Keele Street watermain replacement, Old Maple Area improvements, stormwater management pond improvements.
• $47.94 million across 90 projects for work on facilities assets including the new Carrville Community Centre, Library and District Park, renovating Garnet A. Williams Community Centre, various facility improvements to Al Palladini, Dufferin Clark, North Thornhill and Vellore Village community centres, new Fire Station 7-12, new Service Vaughan service counter at City Hall, LED streetlight retrofit program.
• $39.45 million across 96 projects for parks and open spaces including the Bartley Smith Greenway Trail feasibility study, redevelopment of Glen Shields Park, Phase 2 of North Maple Regional Park, new Martin Tavares Park and adding off-leash dog parks and pickleball courts throughout the community.
• $11.34 million across 24 active transportation network projects, including the Jane Street Uptown Link, the Vaughan Super Trail, Courtland Avenue multi-use pathway, the cycling tracks along New Westminster Drive, Atkinson Avenue and Hilda Street.
• The infrastructure development department also highlighted upcoming projects including the Bass Pro Mills Drive extension environmental assessment, the Integrated Urban Water Plan, Promenade Centre secondary plan, Rutherford and Maple GO mobility pilot, Teston Road Environmental Assessment, and the 2023 Vaughan Transportation Plan.
