The Town of Georgina has lifted its fire ban on all outdoor and open-air burning issued last week.
Burning for any purpose, including backyard bonfires and recreational fires, was not permitted during that time.
"(We) would like to thank all residents and visitors for their cooperation, and helping us spread the word about the fire ban," the town said in a statement.
The fire ban was issued for the protection of property, public safety and the safety of firefighters who would have responded to an incident started by an unlawful fire.
On June 6, Environment Canada issued a special air quality statement for all York Region as a result of high levels of air pollution due to smoke from forest fires.
Smoke plumes from forest fires in Quebec and northeastern Ontario caused air quality to deteriorate during the week.
Everyone -- residents and visitors -- are encouraged to follow the town's open-air burning bylaw when it comes to outdoor fires.
Open-air burning is considered any fire set outside such as campfires, burn barrels, construction site and brush fires.
Georgina Fire and Rescue services also reminds residents help reduce the chance of grass fire, don't flick cigarette butts into the air or out of a vehicle window as the wind can pick them up and drop them in a dry area. Extinguish your butts complete before disposing of them.
