The month of June is packed with events and activities hosted by the Town of Newmarket "to embrace individuality, celebrate culture and encourage movement."
The activities and events aim to honour Indigenous histories, recognize the contributions of seniors and help build a community that is inclusive and accessible, according to a Town of Newmarket news release.
“There is a lot to recognize and learn during the month of June,” said Mayor John Taylor. “This month serves as a chance to embrace the diversity in Newmarket and to continue paving the way for a community where everyone feels seen, heard and empowered.”
National AccessAbility Awareness Week (May 28 to June 3)
Accessibility and inclusion make communities whole. National AccessAbility Awareness Week is an opportunity to celebrate the valuable contributions and leadership of Canadians with disabilities and reflect on ongoing efforts to become a better, more accessible community. As we work to build a community that is inclusive and accessible, we enrich the lives of all.
Wear a red shirt on Wednesday, May 31 to show support and take action for AccessAbility and inclusion. Post a selfie or group photo online with #NewmarketRedShirtDay and tag @TownofNewmarket.
Join Parasports in the Park June 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lions Park (424 D’Arcy St.) Develop your awareness of the importance of AccessAbility with Parasport activities such as sledge hockey, wheelchair basketball and more. All abilities welcome.

National Health and Fitness Day (June 3)
To celebrate National Health and Fitness Day, grab a bingo card from the fitness centre at the Magna Centre (800 Mulock Dr.) and complete challenges throughout the month for a chance to win a prize.

Every Monday in June during public swim at the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex (100 Eagle St. West), the town is offering its Family Swim to Survive program free of charge. Residents can register in advance using an Xplor account at newmarket.perfectmind.com. The classes run Mondays (June 5, 12, 19, 26) from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. and are available in several languages.

Bike Month

National Indigenous History Month
June is a time to recognize the rich history, heritage, resilience and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Metis people, and to honour the stories and achievements of Indigenous Peoples.
The Elman W. Campbell Museum (134 Main St. South) welcomes families to discover these unique histories all month long through the museum’s displays and collection of Indigenous artifacts. Learn more at newmarket.ca/museum
In celebration of both National Indigenous History Month and Pollinator Week (June 19 to 25), the town has partnered with the York Region Arts Council to install a new piece of public art that is part of a regional series. Stop by Fairy Lake Park (off Water Street) after June 22 to see the new trail marker and celebrate the beautiful new artwork by taking a photo with the piece and sharing it on social media (be sure to tag @TownofNewmarket).

Pride Month
Pride Month is a time when LGBTQ2S+ communities and allies come together to spotlight the resilience, celebrate the talent, and recognize the contributions of LGBTQ2S+ communities.

Recreation & Parks Month
Communities across Ontario celebrate Recreation & Parks Month to recognize the contribution that recreation and parks make to each individual’s quality of life. We recognize that access to parks and recreation is a fundamental human need that helps foster personal health, strong communities and social inclusion. June is the perfect opportunity to get out and enjoy the many trails, playgrounds and open spaces we have right here in Newmarket.

Seniors’ Month
In Ontario, we take this month to recognize and celebrate the contributions seniors have made in the community. The Newmarket Seniors’ Meeting Place (NSMP) offers opportunities for its members, or those interested in joining, to build community, pick up hobbies and to stay active alongside their peers
