Here are four things discussed at the May 23 council meeting that could impact residents of Aurora:

1. Concept for new park adjacent to planned Shining Hill subdivision was approved by council. Park is expected to include multi-use artificial turf field, playground, splash pad, basketball court and a multi-use tennis/pickleball court. The cost of the design and construction of the town-owned park will be shared between Shining Hill, St. Anne’s and the town.

2. Aurora is trying to learn from past missteps when it comes to the impacts to residents affected by construction disruptions. Council asked staff to develop a report outlining the concerns of residents affected by construction of the Highland Gate development, which will include any process changes to be made to mitigate impacts during future development projects.

3. Active transportation at top of mind as staff to look into feasibility of a bike share program. The motion by Mayor Tom Mrakas would give access to a fleet of bicycles at docking stations across Aurora.

4. Proposed bylaw to allow urban mobility vehicles on roads in the works. Mrakas put forward a motion that was endorsed by council to develop a proposed bylaw that would allow UVMs to be driven on Aurora roads once new provincial legislation comes into affect.
